Introduction: Who is Azrael?:
Was Azrael really the Angel of Death? Or were his original records poorly translated? Journey with us back in time and rediscover
the ancient legacy that brought the legends to life!
We've traced every aspect of Azrael's history in literature, from his mortal origin as Azra, the descendant of the high priests of
Aaron and scribe of the Babylonian exile and second Temple Jerusalem period. We follow his legacy into the early Christian period
where he became known as Esdras, the prophet who bears witness to the coming of Christ. It was this early Christian story that
claimed Azrael ascended into heaven without tasting death. We then examine the records of the Christian heretic Marcion, concerning
the "Angel of Law" - some of these records have become the foundation for Muslim tales. We then present the records surrounding
Azrael's resurrection from death and how they may have influenced a Muslim accusation that claims the Jews had named Azrael, the
Son of God. We then review the literature concerning how Azrael was named Islam's "Angel of Death and Final Judgement". You'll
also understand the influence these documents had on the medieval poetry, art and folklore that followed. These records are
presented in chronological order so one can clearly see how they were altered (and added to), along their way into the surrounding
lands and legends. This page not only demonstrates the fact that many of the original records were compromised, but it explains the
politics of the times that were responsible for some of the changes that were made to them. If you wanted to know why you couldn't
find Azrael in biblical literature, this is the best place to begin.
The Book of Azrael:
This is a master book we have created by gathering together the world's most complete collection of all the Books of Azrael. Come and
explore the original source of Azrael in every scroll, book, document and debate that was ever recorded in Jewish, Christian and Islamic
history. But we don't stop there! Just how many people wrote a Book of Azrael? You would be surprized! So we've also collected the modern
"Books of Azrael". These began to surface just after the Jewish people created the new state they call Israel. All presented here, as my
gift to those who have heard Azrael's name echo in their hearts and stir in their minds.
Azrael's Gallery:
This is a haunting collection focused on artists who have portrayed the Angel of Death in their work. Each of these are the original
renderings that have spawned countless modern-day imitations! Some of them are well known, while other pieces are not, but you're sure
to find the journey worthwhile. We'll be adding 8 x 10 printable versions soon, as well as translations and other personal favorites,
so plan on visiting Azrael's Gallery each season for new material and unique offerings. These portraits are now being presented at the
House of Azrael Online Galleries.
Special Presentations Pages:
This section combines our old "Conflicts and Contradictions" page with our "Azrael Faqs" page and includes a host of other unique studies
that we have conducted for the Song of Azrael. Some of the presentations, such as Azrael's Burial Tomb, are of historical interest to our
viewers. Others, like "Who Are the Sons of God?" were created specifically to address a variety of religious disputes and misunderstandings.
Some of the research offered here is very controversial, but these are also very controversial times we live in. We invite every religious
scholar to challenge and participate in these presentations, regardless of sect or political influence, to fully explain the issues that
are raised in every topic.
Song of Azrael Project News:
Those who have been involved with us from the beginning have seen the Song of Azrael project soar to unbelievable heights! This ground-breaking
work has fueled so many closely related projects that we've had to increase our lines of study to accommodate them all. To address the problems
with Hebrew transliteration, we've opened a Hebrew Language section that was such a success, it came to be listed as a resource at the
Ancient Hebrew Research Center! Song of Azrael publishes a variety of projects online
and invites viewers to participate in the research. Check this page frequently to see what we're going to be doing next!
Circles of Friendships:
Song of Azrael is compiling a vast collection of related resource links on a newly redesigned page. This will take some time, but we hope to
offer something for everyone by the end of 2008, all arranged by topics and interest. We hope to publish links as soon as we receive them so
if you own a website that fits our special interest categories, or you know of one that does, please submit the link to us and we'll do our
best to publish it quickly.
The Hebrew Language:
We have spent a great amount of time reviewing ancient documents, most of which were written in biblical Hebrew, so I took some time out to
learn this mysterious language and, four years later, I'm still studying because it's not an easy language to master. One of the things I have
learned is that one needs to be very careful with transliteration! Occassionally, people slip up and this has caused statements to be made
that are completely inaccurate. We address these errors on our forum, but encourage our viewers to learn this ancient language with us. It's
free!
Brightest Blessings,
Azrael & Sheila (A.S.)
